Christmas Songs

If you know me you might be aware that I'm not exactly the largest fan of the Yuletide season. In fact you would probably go as far as to describe me as the least Christmassy person you know and say that I would run that green Dr Seuss character pretty close in terms of dislike of all things Festive. I don't mind, it's true.

I don't much care for Christmas music either, but while a lot of people are arguing about whether Fairytale of New York or that abomination by Slade is the best Christmas song I've got some better suggestions.
Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt is absolute Eartha Kitt and all you need for Christmas is this playlist of alternative seasonal punk to really Feliz your Navidad or whatever.

First up is bubblegum, chart-bothering punks, Blink 182, with the really deep and meaningful Happy Holidays, You Bastard. It's brief and jammed full of puerile sex references. A winner at any family gathering.

Nerf Herder stick with the puerility and tell us exactly how much they like The Season with the disturbing mental image-creating I've Got a Boner for Christmas.

Coming Home for Christmas by MxPx is a pretty decent punk song and comes from their album Punk Rawk Christmas which is full of self-penned Yuletide classics.

How about turning Elton John's Step into Christmas into an anti-Christmas song? That's what The Business did in 1981 with the seminal Bollocks to Christmas.

Sticking with covers, here's the legendary Bad Religion doing a decent version of White Christmas. Listen to it while you still can, before the 'alt-right' claim it as their anthem or something.

And finally, this Dropkick Murphys song was originally on an album that was released in January 2013 (bad timing). The Season's Upon Us is about a dysfunctional family Christmas which is something pretty much everyone can identify with.

Listen to these songs between elderly relatives' racist rants or during the Queen's speech. Best enjoyed with alcohol for the ultimate Joyeux Noel's House Party.
